David Schäfer is a team leader at the European Commission’s DG Energy, where he works on energy infrastructure. In his previous posts, he had various roles at the Commission’s Secretariat-General, including as a briefer for Commission Presidents Jean-Claude Juncker and Ursula von der Leyen, a policy coordinator of the European Green Deal, and a member of the Commission’s task force that negotiated the € 750 billion recovery fund with Member States. His responsibilities included developing the Commission’s communication strategy on the recovery package. Prior to joining the Commission, David advised the European Central Bank’s Supervisory Board member Pentti Hakkarainen on his media activities. As a press officer, he regularly interacted with journalists and co-developed the European Central Bank’s Brexit Communication Strategy.
