Under Pressure: How the Erosion of the International Rules-Based Order Impacts EU Law

The international ‘rules-based order’ - that fostered peace and stability in the post-war world - is rapidly ceding to global power politics.

What does this important geo-political shift mean for the autonomous EU legal order? How are the EU’s institutions, fundamental principles, and substantive rules and policies affected by it?

These are the main themes of the 2026 Annual Conference of the College of Europe’s European Legal Studies Department. It brings together leading scholars and practitioners in EU law to reflect on the profound challenges that the rapidly changing world is posing to the EU legal order, both internally and externally, and to critically examine and discuss how the EU is, and should be (re-)acting.

Programme & Registration

The registration fee is 50,00 euros for all external participants and includes coffee breaks and two sandwich lunches.
