Natolin Students Visit the Polish History Museum in Warsaw | European Civilization Chair
As part of its mission to deepen students' understanding of Central and Eastern European history and culture, the European Civilization Chair he College of Europe in Natolin organized a study visit to the Polish History Museum in Warsaw, one of the newest and largest museums in the world.
They were received by the Chairholder, Professor Richard BUTTERWICK-PAWLIKOWKSI, who is also the Principal Historian of the Museum. He explained to them the Museum's purpose and facilities, and outlined the content and structure of the permanent exhibition of Poland's thousand-year history, which is expected to open late in 2026. He focused in particular on the themes of freedom in Polish history, and the ways in which Poland's history has intertwined with those of neighbouring countries and nations. This is especially apparent in the temporary exhibition of which he is co-curator, 'The Insurgent Republic: The Kościuszko Insurrection and Its Traditions'.
Students then explored the exhibition with professional guides, encountering authentic exhibits and interactive displays that bring Poland's insurrectionary tradition to life and highlight its global relevance.
