Guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Nikolay Gertchev: “The International Role of the Euro”
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Prof. Dr. Nikolay GERTCHEV, Adjunct Professor of banking regulation at the University of Angers, delivered an insightful guest lecture on “The International Role of the Euro” to our students in Bruges.
During the lecture, organized by our European Economic Studies Department, Professor Gertchev examined the euro’s performance in the face of today’s global uncertainty, analyzing its strengths and limitations within an ever-evolving international monetary order. Reflecting on the euro’s journey since its inception 25 years ago, he sparked debates on its current appeal to investors and its capacity to act as a global currency.
The session was brought to life by the active engagement of our students, who posed insightful questions, challenged assumptions, and explored the broader implications of the euro’s role in a shifting geopolitical and economic landscape.
A warm thank you to Professor Gertchev for sharing his expertise with us and challenging our students to critically assess Europe’s monetary future!
