Dr. Elena Lazarou is the Director General of ELIAMEP. Between 2015 and 2025 she
worked in the European Parliament’s research service, including as acting Head of the External Policies Unit (2020-2024). She is also Assistant Professor of International Relations ( on leave) at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), Brazil where she also headed the Center for International Relations (2012-2014). Previously she was head of the Euro- Mediterranean Observatory of the Hellenic Center for European Studies; and researcher at the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics and the University of Sheffield . Dr. Lazarou has published widely on EU foreign and security policy; transatlantic relations; geopolitics and multilateralism. She holds several fellowship and advisory positions, including at Chatham House, the European Policy Center (EPC) and the ARES Group.
