Andy Smith is a Research Professor in political science employed by the French Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques. Since 1996 he has worked at Sciences Po Bordeaux where he has conducted research essentially on the European Union (EU), the political economy of industries and France. As regards the EU, his best known books are Le gouvernement de l'Union européenne (LGDJ, 2010), Les commissaires européens (with J. Joana, Presses de Sciences Po Bordeaux, 2002) and the EU's Government of Industries (ed. with B. Jullien, Routledge, 2014). In the field of political economy he has published on the wine, medicines, defence and agri-food industries, as well as producing the research essay The Politics of Economic Activity (Oxford University Press, 2016). Moreover, he is currently completing a 5-year research project on Europe's single market led by Craig Parsons (see the journal Publius for articles). Given that much of his research, including other ongoing work on climate change, has focused upon France, in 2021 he published Made in France. Societal Structures and Political Work (Manchester University Press).
