Session on "Religious Authority and Peace Mediation" by Mr Anis ISSA | Kick-off Meeting of the Religion and Politics Nest
The Religion and Politics Nest of the College of Europe in Natolin officially launched its activities for the academic year 2025-2026 with a thought-provoking inaugural session titled: "Religious Authority and Peace Mediation." The event was led by Mr Anis ISSA, Nest Mentor and Head of the Capacity Building Office at Natolin.
In his opening remarks, Mr ISSA introduced the Nest’s vision and strategic plans for the year ahead. He emphasised the often-overlooked role of religion as a catalyst for peace, noting that while it is frequently portrayed as a source of division, religious authority can play a transformative role in rebuilding trust, fostering reconciliation, and supporting peace processes - particularly in contexts where political mechanisms may fall short.
The session set the tone for a year of interdisciplinary exploration at the intersection of religion and politics, encouraging students to consider faith-based perspectives in conflict resolution and global diplomacy.
The Natolin Religion and Politics Nest is one of several thematic initiatives at the College of Europe in Natolin, designed to offer students in-depth engagement with complex global challenges through seminars, workshops, and expert-led discussions.
