The Religion and Politics Nest of the College of Europe in Natolin was honoured to host a discussion titled “Religious Diplomacy and Humanitarian Action” with Mr Niels Carl A. LORIJN, Ambassador to the Republic of Poland of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta.
The discussion explored the role of religion in diplomacy and humanitarian action, focusing on the experience of the Order of Malta as a unique actor in international relations. Ambassador LORIJN shared insights on the Order’s diplomatic engagement and humanitarian missions worldwide.\
About the speaker:
Mr Niels Carl Alexander LORIJN, a Dutch citizen, joined the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta in 1999, and has since been actively involved in various of its humanitarian aid and healthcare projects across Latin America and Europe.
He was elected to the Order’s Camera dei Conti (Board of Auditors) at the 2014 Chapter General and re-elected in 2019 for a second term, which ended in January 2023. In April 2020, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Order of Malta to the Republic of Poland, thereby succeeding H.E. Ambassador Vincenzo MANNO.
