“Advocating gradual accession to the European Union”

We started the week discussing the “Advocating gradual accession to the European Union” paper with its author, Lukáš Macek, Head of the “Centre Grande Europe” at the Jacques Delors Institute.

The centre of the guest lecture was how to keep EU enlargement realistic, fair, and geopolitically relevant. 

📑In his paper, Prof. Macek challenges the traditional “all or nothing” approach to EU membership. Instead, he proposes a gradual integration process allowing candidate countries to progressively access parts of the EU’s benefits and responsibilities before achieving full membership.
