2025 College of Europe Moot Court Competition

Congratulations to all our students of the European Legal Studies Department for their outstanding performance in the 2025 edition of the College of Europe Moot Court competition!

On Thursday, February 13th, our Bruges campus turned into a courtroom as our students engaged in an intense legal battle over a fictional case on EU social law and the EU’s Directive on fair and adequate minimum wages. Following a rigorous round of pleadings, the best teams advanced to the final, where they presented their arguments before a distinguished panel of judges, including a faculty member, academic assistants, and a guest judge. The competition served as a rigorous exercise in legal reasoning, persuasive argumentation, and procedural strategy, providing students with a valuable hands-on experience in EU litigation.

Many thanks to our Academic Assistants – Erriketi TLA NTA SILVA, Benedetta BRAMBATI, Margherita BRANCA, Jesús Calderón ARGÜELLO, Justine COUDRON, Evangelia KOUMPIADI, and Emma PAULET – for their tireless efforts in making this event possible, as well as to Professor Sacha GARBEN and our Director of Studies Inge GOVAERE for their guidance, and to our alumnus and lecturer Lewis REED for joining us as a judge and sharing his expertise with our students!

A special bravo goes to this year’s winning team representing the European Commission – Emilia VAN WIJMEERSCH, Marta VÁZQUEZ LERENA, Louise VERHAEGEN, and Abel VIDIL – for their sharp legal reasoning and compelling arguments which truly stood out in this year’s competition. Well done to all!
