When, if ever, is the use of force morally justified? And is the potential justness of war dependent upon the quality of justice within peace?
The European Civilization Chair of the College of Europe in Natolin was pleased to organise an inaugural Student-Professor Debate titled: "Just War and Just Peace in European Thought".
The debate explored how European political and legal thought has understood the relationship between bellum iustum (just war) and pax iusta (just peace) drawing from philosophical writings and armed conflicts spanning from the Peloponnesian War to the present.
Natolin students joined Professors Sławomir DĘBSKI and Marek CICHOCKI in an Oxford-style debate, examining whether the morality of war is connected to the justice of the peace that follows.
